The earliest and smallest fruited of the rocotos, mini rocotos are available in two colours. Plants are large and need maximum light coupled with cool conditions. The plants overwinter more readily than many chillies, and they are probably best grown as perennials when higher yields can be expected.
The soft, juicy ripe chillies are mostly used to make salsas. The core and the hard black seeds should be removed before the chillies are liquidised, and plenty of tomatoes and onions should be used to avoid the salsa being too pungent.
