Notes

The term 'mini rocoto' refers to the size of the chillies, not to the plants which are large and spreading. Mini rocotos are available in two colours which are similar in appearance. The large plants need maximum light coupled with cool conditions, and overwinter more readily than many species. Where space is available, they are probably best grown as perennials when higher yields can be expected.

Culinary

The soft, juicy ripe chillies are mostly used to make salsas. The core and the hard black seeds should be removed before the chillies are liquidised, and plenty of tomatoes and onions should be used to avoid the salsa being too pungent.
